User Profile Portlet Configuration

User profile portlets display information about users. The values for properties in the user profile are either manually entered by the user on the Edit User Profile page or automatically populated by a profile source. For more information on user profiles and user profile portlets, see About User Profiles.

Use this page to specify which properties to display to end users. Properties can be organized by categories. For more information about properties and categories, see About User Profiles.

    1. Under the category, click Add Property.

    2. In the Add Properties dialog box, select the properties you want to add.

    3. Click OK.

Note: You cannot create two of the same properties in the same page, even if you create two categories.

    1. Click Rename Categories.

    2. In the Rename Categories dialog box, select the category you want to localize.

    3. In the Names and Descriptions dialog box:

      1. Next to Primary Language, you see one of two things:

        • If your portal administrator has set a mandatory object language in the config.xml file, you see the mandatory language. You must supply a name (and, optionally, a description) for this language.

        • If your portal administrator has not set a mandatory language, you see a drop-down list. Select the language for this object's default name and description.

The primary language sets the default language, so users whose locale settings are outside of the supported languages will see the name and description in the primary language you have selected.

      2. If you want to add names and descriptions for languages other than the primary language, select Supports Localized Names. A new section displays, allowing you to add names and descriptions for additional languages (see step c).

Each category can have an alternate name and description for each language that is supported in the portal. For example, if you have a category called "Engineering," then you might have the French translation, Ingénierie, as the alternate name for that category. So when users log in using the French user interface, they see the category names and descriptions associated with French.

      3. If you selected Supports Localized Names, you can add names and descriptions to display to users who have chosen a language for the portal display other than the primary language you selected.

        • To add a name and description for another supported language:
          1. Click New Localized Name. This displays the Name and Description dialog box.
          2. In the Name box, type the localized name for this category.
          3. In the Language drop-down list, choose the language for which you are adding a name and description.
          4. In the Description box, type the localized description for this category.
          5. When you are done, click Finish.

Note: If this object has already been localized into all supported languages, you cannot add more localized names and descriptions (New Localized Name is not displayed).

        • To edit an exiting name or description:
          1. Click the entry you want to change. This displays Name and Description dialog box.
          2. Edit the Language, Name, and Description as necessary.
          3. When you are done, click Finish.
        • To remove an existing language, select the entry you want to remove and click .

        • To select or clear all of the language check boxes, select or clear the check box to the left of Name.

      4. In the Primary Language drop-down list, select the default language for users. The primary language sets the default language, so users whose locale settings are outside of the supported languages will see the name and description in the primary language you have selected.

      5. Select Supports Localized Names.

      6. Click New Localized Name.

      7. In the Localized Name and Description dialog box, select a language, type the name and a short description, and click Finish.

      8. Click Finish.

    4. When you are done localizing all the categories, click Close.

  1. Click Administration.
  2. Open the Portlet Editor:
  3. In the Portlet Editor, on the Main Settings page, click Edit.
