You can set up rules that, if met, cause users to be members of this group. These users are dynamic members of the group because their membership depends on specific values in their user profiles, or their membership in other groups. For example, you can set up a rule that states that all employees in Texas are part of this group. If an employee moves to Arizona, and the "State" property in her profile changes, the employee no longer satisfies this rule.
Dynamic group members are automatically added or removed from groups as their profile data changes, depending on the rules you set up on this page. The update is implemented via the Dynamic Membership Update Agent job in the Intrinsic Operations folder.
Static group members are defined for this group on the Group Memberships page. They are permanent members of the group until you manually remove them from the group members list or from a group that is on the group members list.
To build dynamic membership rules:
Click Add
Statement to add one or more statements to Grouping 1.
Select AND or OR as the operator for Grouping 1:
If all statements in Grouping 1 must be true, select AND.
If any statements in Grouping 1 must be true, select OR.
Define each statement in Grouping 1:
Select a property from the drop-down list on the left, such as Company.
For this property, select an operator (such as Contains) from the drop-down list in the middle.
If you selected Contains, enter a value for the property on the right. You can use wildcards.
If you need to add statements that require a different operator (AND or OR) relative to each other, add another grouping. For example, you may have three statements in Grouping 1 that must ALL be true. If you want to add three more statements, ANY of which must be true, add a grouping.
To
add a second grouping, click Add
Grouping. This becomes a child grouping of Grouping 1.
To
add more groupings, select the radio button next to the parent grouping,
then click Add
Grouping.
IMPORTANT: The operator you select for a grouping applies to
all its statements and child groupings directly under it.
Removing Groupings or Statements
To remove a grouping,
select the radio button next to it, and click Remove
Grouping. You cannot remove the top level grouping.
To remove the last
statement in a grouping, select the grouping and click Remove Statement.
Click Preview Members to see dynamic members resulting from the rules you have set up. (Only 1000 members will be displayed.)
When you are done, click Finish.
The dynamic members are automatically added to this group when you click Finish. The next time you open this group editor, dynamic members are displayed in the Group Memberships page.
